Two things worth knowing early

A floating floor cannot go over another floating floor. If you have existing laminate or floating timber, uplift is mandatory, and we'll tell you that up front rather than find it on install day.

Uplift cost swings enormously with how the old floor is fixed. A floating floor lifts easily, glued timber is a different job entirely, and on a forty square metre area that difference can run to thousands. It's the first thing we check.

Long format planks read as one continuous floor across an open plan, which is the whole point of opening it up in the first place.

Can the same floor run through the kitchen?

Yes, and it's usually the right call. Hybrid is waterproof, so it handles a kitchen and a laundry without a transition strip breaking up the run. A continuous floor also makes an open plan area read considerably bigger than one chopped into zones.

When in the renovation should the floor go in?

Late. After the painting, after the kitchen, after anything that involves ladders or wet trades. Going in early means covering the new floor for weeks and hoping nothing gets dropped on it. Talk to us about where we sit in your programme and we'll book accordingly.

Our floor slopes. Is that a problem?

It's common in older Bay of Plenty homes and it's fixable. We measure the fall, then quote levelling to suit. What we won't do is lay over it and let the floor telegraph every dip, because that shows up within a year and there's no fixing it afterwards.

Floating or glued for the timber?

On concrete we recommend glued. It's quieter underfoot and it feels more solid, which matters if you've spent money on European timber. Floating is cheaper to install and is the right answer over some substrates. We advise per job rather than per preference.

Do you deal with the old floor?

Yes, uplift and disposal are part of the install quote. What we need from you before we price it is what the existing floor is and how it's fixed down, because that single answer moves the number more than anything else on the job.

Can we see it in our own light first?

That's what the mobile showroom is for. Timber and hybrid both read very differently under a shop light than they do in a north facing living room at four in the afternoon. We bring the samples to the house so you're choosing in the room they're going in.
